Ibom Air Project: Icing on the Cake for Udom’s Re-Election

Governor Udom’s deep rooted background in finance management and as a fine experienced administrator has reflected in his leadership disposition in governance and has set him apart for a possible win in the coming governorship elections.

On December 22, 2018, during the annual state sponsored Christmas Carol night, held in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

The Akwa Ibom State Governor, Deacon Udom Emmanuel had announced that his administration was planning to launch a state-owned airline in a bid to ‘’lessen the problems currently being encountered by numerous air travellers’’ to the state.

To further buttress his point, the Governor stated conclusively that the move to establish a state owned airline was projected to attract foreign investors to the state.

At the time when this revelation was in public domain, a number of critics went wild, making series of unwarranted utterances that such project will never come to fruition, with claims that it will be likened as another ground-breaking project by Governor Udom Emmanuel.

Surprisingly, the success of the Ibom Air project became the talking point in the media yesterday, as the unveiling of two aircraft, acquired by Akwa Ibom State Government, under Governor Udom Emmanuel’s administration arrived the Victor Attah’s airport, with a rousing ovation from people from all walks of life who trooped out to witness the history making event.

The official unveiling event which had stake holders in the PDP camp and special guests in attendance such as senate president of Nigeria, Bukola Saraki, beamed international media attention to Akwa Ibom State and became number one trending topic on twitter yesterday with conversation which centred on the successful inauguration of Ibom Air Line, being first ever state owned airline in the history of aviation industry in Nigeria.

Speaking during the event at the Victor Attah International Airport, the Governor said, ‘The airline was a monumental achievement in the state and indeed Africa. The journey to achieve Ibom airline started in 2016 and today, it is a reality’.

‘This is the only state across the country that runs and operates an international airport. We are the only state that runs a category Two run way’. He added.

‘I want to reassure the former governor, Obong Victor Attah that very soon, the MRO will be a place that will maintain fleets of aircrafts across the country’.

We are running Ibom Air as a business, paying particular attention to Akwa Ibom people,’’ he said.

Aside an array of dignitaries who were present at the occasion, Senate President, Bukola Saraki, who unveiled the aircrafts, commended the leadership qualities of the state governor, stating that he has created an environment for further development in the state.

He said, ‘’Today, we celebrate leadership; we celebrate the good things that can come out of Nigeria; we celebrate the audacity of hope. The governor has created an environment for a robust job employment in the state. We are proud of you in the PDP family that you are one of us’’.

Icing on the Cake for Udom’s Re-Election

Pundits, not unconnected with APC hirelings, who were shocked as a result of this singular achievement of governor Udom Emmanuel’s Ibom Air project, still made a fuss out of this feat, saying that it was a mischievous move to win the heart of voters for Udom’s second term bid at the polls coming in few weeks.

Constructively, it is safe to say that the launch of Ibom Air passes as another motivational factor that will win more voters from the APC camp in favour of governor Udom Emmanuel.

Promise Kept

The actualization of the Ibom Air project is a strong point indicating that Governor Udom Emmanuel is indeed a promise keeper who has kept to his words by swift implementation of the project. This move, although coming strategically at the build up to the governorship polls, signifies hope that more realization of the Governor’s manifestos will be achieved.

Again, contrary to the unsuccessful attempts of the touted Nigeria Air project by APC federal Government that ended with just a logo which was executed with outrageous budget, Governor Udom Emmanuel has proven that acquiring and operating an airline and taking delivery of two aircraft is not about fanfare and media hype, but a strategic decision done with funds from the state Government revenue.

Industrialization Drive

Governor Udom who had since made it clear that his blueprints manifesto for Akwa Ibom State is to successfully complete his Industrialization drive, is making that dream a reality with the Ibom Air project and other industries already in operations across the state.

His industrialization drive has birthed about ten viable functional industries in the state, which includes: Pencil factory, syringe factory, metering factory, plywood processing factory, and many more.

Governor Udom’s deep rooted background in finance management and as a fine experienced administrator has reflected in his leadership disposition in governance and has set him apart for a possible win in the coming governorship elections.
