HEADS-UP With Arthur Kelly: Nigeria As An Animal Kingdom

“Now the hyenas and the jackals are scheming and talking to each other in whispers; still doubting whether the Lion King will be back or not. “Now the Lion king is asleep and no other dare to confirm if he will wake up or not.Its the wish of the Hyenas that the Lion King never wakes or come back so that they can be kings. Its the prayers of the weaker animals that the Lion King comes back to save the Kingdom from the Hyenas, the wolves and other predators.”  shehu Sani.

Such as I would have loved to leave this subject alone for now, I am compelled to visit it by what is making the rounds on social media.

I actually thought Nnamdi Kanu was the proponent of the term ‘Nigeria is a zoo’. Apparently our ‘first couple’ beat him to equate Nigerians with animal status; the Husband sees Nigerians as Dogs and Baboons, the Wife also sees Nigerians as Hyenas and Jackals – Metaphor as a figure of speech is questioned.

Nnamdi Kanu

Are Nigerians merely animals to them?

In the space of two years, things has gone out of control in the corridors of power and the political arena is gearing up to changing mantle of leadership at the helm of affairs.

Aisha Buhari, the wife of the President, took to facebook to give an insight into the power play at the Nigerian seat of power in the wake of a sickness that has kept her husband out of the country for over two months. It might interest you to know that President Muhammadu Buhari had flown to London 65 days ago to resume medical treatment after an earlier round early this year.

In a Facebook post on Monday, Mrs. Buhari took a cue and alluded to some elements around her ailing husband as ‘the Hyenas’ and ‘the Jackals’, hoping that they would soon be sent out of the ‘Animal Kingdom’. Aisha is presently in the United Kingdom to see her ailing husband, alongside the Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo; She responded to Senator representing Kaduna Central District, Sen. Shehu Sani’s proverbial facebook post via her facebook account.

Mr. Sani’s post read: ‘Prayer for the absent Lion King has waned; until he’s back then they will fall over each other to be on the front row of the palace temple. Now the hyenas and the jackals are scheming and talking to each other in whispered; still doubting whether the Lion King will be back or not…It is the wish of the Hyenas and the Jackals that the Lion King never wakes up or come back so that they can be kings. It is the prayers of the weak animals that the Lion King comes back to save the kingdom from the Hyenas, the wolves and other predators’.

Mrs. Buhari responded to Sen. Shehu Sani proverbially post thus: ‘God has answered the prayers of the weaker Animals. The Hyenas and the jackals will soon be sent out of the kingdom. We strongly believe in the prayers and support of the weaker animals’.

She made it sound like KANU was right when he said Nigeria is a zoo. Last October, Mrs. Buhari had raised a global storm when she said that she might not campaign for her husband’s second term on the claim that those who canvassed for his victory had been displaced by strangers foisted on him, many of who do not share her husband’s patriotism.

Mrs. Buhari had returned to the UK last week after an earlier trip last month after which Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, claimed she was not allowed to see the president by an alleged cabal around him.

With the recent events in Nigeria, it clearly indicates that the notion that when the owner of the house is absent, the enemy takes charge of it affairs. Most importantly, is the fact that Nigeria has been officially declared a zoo nation that harbors many hyenas, jackals, lions, elephants, monkeys, baboons, ostriches, zebras, goats, chickens, rabbits, snakes, scorpions, et al.

Can’t our leaders exhibit some degree of social responsibility, can’t we maintain decency and decorum in this clime? It beats my imaginations and nausea me the crop of leaders we birth in this nation. We sleep and wake with series of mind-blowing and breathtaking blunders from our leaders.

A country that is under the siege of different crimes, economic woes, under development need not engage in this show of shame.
