– True friends are people who can make you laugh, when you don’t even feel like smiling
– Fake friends are like shadows; always near you at your brightest moments, but nowhere to be seen at your darkest hour.
Friendship is another type of ‘’ship’’ that can either keep you afloat or make you sink. Traditionally, a friend is someone who should keep you afloat; you know, have your back no matter what, are your ride and die, someone that’ll be honest with you no matter how hurtful it may be, someone you can say anything to, and be yourself completely with without fear of judgement. Someone you don’t have to impress, a person that will share your good bad and ugly days with you. That is who a true friend is.
No one is perfect, we all have our various shortcomings; in light of this, we should surround ourselves with people who accept us and our flaws. I used to be friends with these girls and I realised after a very long while that all I was doing was trying too hard to impress them; they figured it out and started to take me for granted because they knew I wasn’t sure of myself. I was always cautious around them, minding what I said and did so I won’t upset them. From experience, I can boldly tell you that that type of relationship is not healthy. Amidst your friends is where you should be most comfortable, you should be able to do crazy things together, and not be scared that when you turn your back, your matter will be tabled for discussion. True friends will tell you when you are wrong, not smile to your face, and call round table meeting to bash you behind your back. True friends are people who can make you laugh, when you don’t even feel like smiling.

Friendship, just like every other relationship is not all rosy, because it involves people with different attitudes, trying to understand, respect, love, cherish and be there for each other; no relationship is perfect, but working through the imperfections is what keeps us going. The world is filled with too many fake people and fake friends that are only after what they can gain from you. They are always around during the good and jolly times, but are someway somehow lost during the hard and trying times. Fake friends are like shadows; always near you at your brightest moments, but nowhere to be seen at your darkest hour. Knowing this, you should cherish the few good friends that you have; don’t cut a good friendship because of one bad thing that the other person did, forgetting all the good things they have done before. Value the true friends you have, because they are scarce.
‘’Some people bring out the worst in you, others bring out the best
And there are those remarkably rare, addictive ones
Who just bring out the most in you.
Of everything, they make you feel so alive,
That you’ll follow them straight to hell to keep getting your fix’’
- KarenMarie Moning
You see those ones that bring out the most in you; the ones that make you feel so alive, they are the ones that you should choose as friends, because they always make you the best version of yourself.
